Although the ear has natural mechanisms for the removal of ear wax, it is recognised that some people do experience problems with accumulated wax that can necessitate ear irrigation. At Rose Cottage Clinic we use warm water irrigation.
If you have accumulated wax and intend to make an appointment we advise the use of ear drops (such as olive oil) to soften the wax thus aiding removal. Apply 3-4 times per day for 3-5 days prior to treatment. If you suspect that you have a perforated tympanic membrane (ear drum) or an ear infection do not apply oil and seek medical attention.
